How You Can Support This Fight
As the first, oldest, and largest truly grassroots group in the country dedicated to fighting for student loan borrowers, the most important support that people can provide SLJ is through actions. These include convincing members of Congress to return standard bankruptcy protections to all student loans, pushing the President to both cancel all federally owned loans by executive order and direct the Department of Education (and its contractors) to stop opposing borrowers in bankruptcy proceedings, pushing governors and state legislatures to call for cancellation/bankruptcy, and convincing local and national media to do stories on this problem and making the argument for student loan justice in public forums, etc. Obviously, any other actions you can take towards these goals according to your unique talents, skills, networks, etc., are extremely helpful, needed and appreciated!
We decided years ago to fund this effort entirely through financial support from the members. This prevents conflicts of interest, and guarantees that we are fighting only, and totally for the borrowers and have no other agendas. Only you can help with this. Donors are updated frequently via email about our activities, progress and expenses. This is a great way to stay connected and apprised of our efforts, accomplishments, challenges, strategy, etc..
You can donate directly (through Paypal) by pushing the button above. These are considered to be personal gifts, and are not tax deductible. Alternatively, you can donate for the educational work that we do through our fiscal sponsorship with the Backbone Campaign. These donations are tax deductible.
