This is significant. Richard Cordray, who runs the federal loan program, said on Wednesday that they are seriously working on a change on how they handle bankruptcy on student loans. We've been pushing them to stop opposing borrowers in court. James Kvaal, the recently confirmed Under Secretary, assured me he was going to push for this if/when he got into office. This is what that is. This is what we've been alluding to over the past two months, but weren't able to discuss. We're getting very close, folks. This is big. I hope that you can understand why getting the threat of bankruptcy back is critical for getting any meaningful loan cancellation down the road, and why we've been fighting so hard for it. This puts us in the home stretch for getting this problem solved. I hope you all can appreciate that it was us who successfully pushed Elizabeth Warren to bring bankruptcy into her campaign, and then successfully pushed Biden's campaign manager to endorse her bankruptcy plan. It was also us who have been pushing Biden for something like this since shortly after the election. To everyone who helped...THANK YOU. We're starting to see the fruits of our efforts. We need to push very hard right now, folks:
Special Request: We want to email our petition signers directly for the next couple of months. This would supercharge our strength, reach, and effectiveness at this critical time. This is the muscle I think we need for the final push. Hopefully we'll be able to fund raise from them to cover this cost, but we won't know unless we try. It would also be a very large expense for us- we would need to pay about $1,300 per month to email the signers we have emails for (around 150,000 people). So far, we've raised $400 towards this, but we still need 36 people to donate $25 or more to make that happen. Over the past month, we've noticed a pronounced spike in submissions to the group from people vowing to never pay again into the loan system. Frustration is clearly escalating quickly right now, but our elected leaders are apparently more concerned with turning the loan system back on than fixing the problem. Our voices are the strongest tools we have. We need to use them. Towards that end, will you please retweet these voices from across the country? Our film was reported on yesterday at Fox Business News. Lot's of "hater" comments there. By all means, respond to them. See my comments to get an idea for what to say. This is the battle...the front line... Our Bankruptcy Legislation getting closer this week: Our bankruptcy bill is being marked up this week. It would be exceptionally helpful if you could retweet this to Ted Cruz and Lindsey Graham, and also call a few republican senators, and tell them to cosponsor S.2598. We're getting close, folks. Getting bankruptcy back is the surest path to ultimate loan cancellation. Retweeting this to Virginia Foxx would also help! Pumpkin Contest: Our A/V Club is doing a scary pumpkin contest for Halloween! See the flyer below. There is a $50 gift card prize for 1st place...should be fun!
