Strength in Numbers- Alan —--------------------------------------------------------------------------- Message to the President: Mr. President, I implore you to immediately return standard bankruptcy rights to federal student loans, institute a clawback from the colleges, end the lending program, and replace it with a sensible funding model. The federal student loan program is now catastrophically failed, and you know this. In 2015, you decried the fact that student loans were viewed in Washington as a revenue source for the federal government. Today, over $100 Billion in interest- profit- on these loans is taken out of the states, and sent to the Department of Education every year. The state of Florida, for example, sends more interest on federal student loans to Washington every year ($6 billion) than Disneyworld brings in in revenue every year ($5 Billion), and that is only one example of many that I could cite. The loans have been weaponized through the removal of bankruptcy rights, statutes of limitations, and other core protections that exist for all other loans. They have become hyper-inflationary, predatory licenses to steal, and are now ruining the lives of millions. There are 43 million borrowers in the country, and three-fourths of them are unable to make payments today. 85% will never be able to repay. The majority of these people are either Republican or independent. Millions went to trade schools and community colleges. Many are veterans. Many are seniors. The worst hurt states aren't the coastal elite states. Rather they are Southern States, by and large. Despite what you may have been told, this is your base, Mr. President. There is no saving this lending program. It is now failed by all rational metrics. Returning the uniform bankruptcy rights that the Founders called for ahead of the power to raise an army, declare war, and ahead of every right listed in the Bill of Rights is exactly what is needed right now. Many conservatives agree on this point. You said you would close the Department of Education and rein in the colleges. You need to also end the predatory loan scam that they have been running on this country for so many decades. This will not wait, Mr. President. You have a constitutional, conservative, and moral duty to the people on this, Mr. President. Please do the right thing. We have remained completely free of corruption over these twenty years, so you know. The other groups of significant size are corrupted. They are literally business partners with the student loan industry. They would sooner slit their own throats than actually win this battle. The battle is raging. The bill that is being pushed through Congress right now is absolutely poisonous for us. We have to fight. Do your part, please- Godspeed, Alan LETTER TO THE PRESIDENT: ======================= Mr. President: The colleges, the student loan industry, and the Dept of Education are playing a vicious trick on you and the country with The One, Big, Beautiful Bill". -The Bill does not restrain student borrowing. In fact, it increases borrowing by nearly $20,000 per undergraduate student. This will add hundreds of billions onto the debt tab of the Class of '26, and every class thereafter. -The bill opens the floodgates for various tricks that the lending industry plays on the borrowers- tricks which come with a massive payment from the U.S. Taxpayer, and will never be repaid. -The bill increases (not decreases) funding for "administrative costs" of the Department of Education- by $1 Billion. This, for a Department you said you wanted to shut down. -The bill takes away your authority to cancel student loans broadly. You used this power twice in your last term. You need this power, Mr. President. I'm pretty sure you understand what a catastrophe these student loans have become for the country. The loans will have to be cancelled, and the ONLY way to do this at no cost to the taxpayers is through your executive actions. You do not want to lose this power over the Department of Education, Mr. President. The Congress of 1965 gave you this power for a very good reason. This bill is a giveaway to the colleges, Mr. President. It puts the student loan program- which really should be scrapped- on steroids. This is the most dangerous bill on student loans every to be likely to pass. Virginia Foxx and other House members have been corrupted by this industry, have betrayed their conservative principles, their states, and now want you to go along with this shameless, nation-wrecking, college-enriching theft of the taxpayers and the students. Please don't let them get away with it. I strongly urge you, Mr. President, to tell the Senate to take the student loan related language out of this bill. It is horrible for the taxpayers, horrible for the students, and horrible for your base, nearly 20% who hold these toxic, unconstitutional loans. Josh Hawley, Matt Gates, John Cornyn, Tucker Carlson, Wayne Johnson, Joe Rogan, Your speechwriter Frank Buckley, and many other conservatives all now agree: This lending system is failed, and standard bankruptcy protections have got to be returned. This is the only way to rein in the colleges, the Department of Education, and the student loan industry. The Big, Beautiful Bill does the opposite of that. Please act on this at once Mr. President.
