Knives Out: Congressmen tell Biden to NOT cancel student loans...

Good Morning:

I have to lead with a request for donations.  Needing to raise $160 for a pending phone/internet expense.  Will you please help?

Knives Out:

Yesterday it was reported that four congressmen sent the President a letter, asking him to NOT cancel loans by executive order!  3 of these people come from Georgia, North Carolina, and Ohio- some of the worst hit states in the country on student loan debt!  If you live in any of these states- especially if you consider yourself to be a conservative- this should be extremely concerning to you.  These men (all republican) are defending the worst big-government, college-enriching lending scam in US History, are screwing over millions of their constituents...and even their base...and we need to make them pay.

To that end, will you please take a minute today to like and retweet this, this, this, and this?

This is the battle, folks.  Either you help us fight it, or we lose it.

Special Panel Today

Today at 1pm, we are doing a special panel for an expatriot group in Paris, France.  It's on Facebook, and it's free!  Please come on by and jump into the discussion.  Should be very interesting.  Thanks to Heather Taylor for organizing this!

This is the time to fight.

Please delete student loans. I can't make even income based payments. I owe more than I ever started with!

Families like mine NEED student loan cancelation. My husband has SSDI, but it renews every three-five years, not 5-7, so he will not be eligible for forgiveness. He is permanently disabled. His bones are only going to continue to disintegrate until he is wheelchair bound. You are not there are night when he is crying in pain. His other conditions make it impossible to take anything stronger than Motrin and a heating pad, because his stomach bleeds. It is heartbreaking. He used to carry around 80 pound boxes in a warehouse, now he is unable to pick up his 7 pound cat or play with our children. He works 10 hours a week, hoping it will keep him out of a wheelchair a little longer, and helps to increase his self worth and stave off depression. He has $38,000 in loans, and I have $120,000, but borrowed less than $78,000.

Meanwhile, we also have a son with Autism, and another child with an unspecified learning disability. I pulled them to cyber school after our oldest was choked by a student and the teacher told me she would toughen him up. He had bruises on his neck. No phone call. I have a Master's in Adult Education, so I feel confident that they are getting a quality education, but it does make it harder to find work.

No one wants to hire you when your husband needs to be taken to doctors, your oldest has anxiety attacks, or you have to drop everything to take them to appointments because your spouse is in crippling pain, because primary caregiver doesn't even begin to describe my job title as I also take care of my 84 year old grandmother. I am doing the work of five people, working part time, even though I was promised I would find a career upon graduation. I just can't, I have looked, but when you are a caregiver, no one wants you, no matter how hard you try. I don't know what to do, please, forgive student debt. Even if you reformed the program so that student debt only lasted 10 years, then it was gone, you would help millions of Americans who were promised a better life, but graduated into a recession and given a life of poverty.

Please cancel all student loans!! The interest alone is literally killing us! Why do I say literally? Because we can’t afford health care! We can’t afford food! We can’t afford anything because we’re drowning in student loans! I would’ve never gone for my master’s degree if I’d have known how terribly financially debilitating my future would be. PLEASE CANCEL ALL STUDENT LOANS! HELP US, WE’RE DROWNING!!!

They can spend money in wars and internationalist nonsense but throw a generation of children under the bus? Any politician siding against the Children of its own country is immoral. Duping 18yr old kids into student debt is immoral. Profiting from a bogus system, where teenagers are sold aspirations for a decent life only have this taken from them in their 20s, is immoral. And it is selling our country out. America no longer provides a path to a middle class life because its oligarchs want plebians and service workers. the decline of America is evident: the system is eating its own. If this is hyperbole to you, you haven't a clue about what is going on in the world in the past 50 years.

I was told by my university that taking out loans was the only way to get a college education, and that with that education I would be able to find a good paying job. Not the case where I live, and I’m not allowed to move to a city with more job opportunities because of the custody law in my state. So if I want to see my children grow up, I have to stay in a tiny town and not make much money. I’m college educated and own a cleaning business. I clean houses and offices, while having a college degree in biology. My student loans prevent me from qualifying for a mortgage because they are as much as a mortgage. Basically, the loans that were supposed to make me self sufficient are in fact keeping me in poverty. Please, cancel all student loans. An entire generation of us were lied to, being told that we would find good paying jobs coming out. Not the case.

We work so hard for our education. We put blood, sweat, and tears into earning our degrees.
I am in a helping field but feel depleted because of my worry about student loans. Being on an income driven payment plan makes it impossible for me to turn anywhere.
If I make to little, I can’t live a decent life, if I make to much it is taken from me.

I am out in the community every day serving others. This is my passion. As a speech language pathologist, I would never change what I do. I give children a way to communicate.

I shouldn’t have to pay for the rest of my life for this. Nor should anyone else. We’ve worked tirelessly and WE NEED HELP.

When a college education doesn't help you get a job with a living wage, you know something's wrong.

Crazy how the government is bailing out Financial investment firms and airlines but people who work for those companies with student loans can’t get a break.

Hello, my name is Nuria Martinez, I totally agree with the cancellation of student loans, especially those of health personnel who have never received any incentive despite so much work and effort throughout the pandemic.

Please cancel student loans! Income based payments are still not manageable for us on top of living expenses. Interest rates make it feel like I’m never going to finish paying off these loans. I’ve been out of school for 4 years and I’ve only lowered my total by 4K. Interest is killing us! I constantly think about this payment, and I’m always checking to see my balance only to feel stressed and hopeless that I’ll ever get to pay this off.

I am only one of the thousand who have been impacted by the heavy burden of student loans. I had no idea that one day I would owe 85000 in loans for a Master’s Degree in Clinical Psychology. I work almost exclusively with the Medicaid population and because of my age I do not qualify for the loan forgiveness programs. When I bought my car in 2010 (used) my interest rate was lower than my student loan. My four children are struggling to pay off loans from their bachelors degrees and have refused to go back for additional schooling due to the loans and high price of education. This is leading to a caste system. Only the rich and chosen minorities will be afforded advanced degrees. I am sure that you Congressmen do not count every penny nor do your children worry about affording school. My oldest served two tours in Iraq and I am thankful he remained alive. What did he fight for? Our freedom? In the end we are not living in a free country . Whoever said life isn’t fair really told the truth. I will die with my student loan hanging over my head. I thank God my children will not inherit it.

Please do what you promised us. I have helped educate NYC students for over 15 years and owe about $100,000 in loans. I have proven my loyalty and I pray you practice what you’ve preached.

I followed the traditional “plan” and went to college. I took out loans and accrued a decent (a lot of debt). So did my husband. After that we could not find jobs within our field because of the diminishing job market and the fact that an entry level job apparently requires 3+ years of experience. We also can’t return to school to further our education because of our student loan debt. As a result, we are stuck with serving jobs and literally no chance of ever paying off our loans. This is not the future we were promised. The fact that others are even worse off than us is appalling. I truly believe that for the past and future generations to survive and for our country to survive, student loan debt needs to be forgiven. It’s not a matter of a hand out. It is a matter of the rising inflation rates we have experienced, the fact that universities work as corporations, and all of the broken promises that have been made. As of now there is no American Dream, but maybe it can return?

I cannot make minimum payments, and now I can't work in my field bc I can't wear a mask due to health reasons and I can't get a vaxx because of how my body reacts to vaxx so I can't work. I can't pay these bills so it would be better if the government just cancelled the school loans indefinitely from today backwards and anything after today should be revamped with bankruptcy as an option.

School costs too much and when you leave school you don't get the pay you need to live and pay the monthly amounts even low income based ones.

It's not a handout. It's a hand up. Not only does it help the borrower free up that debt but now don't have to worry about what to pay first and ignore till later. It will help families to be able to stimulate the economy with the money some can afford income based.
Some say dont do it bc they had to pay for theirs and life isn't fair. They are correct life isn't fair. However people that have loans now have had it more difficult than they did. Their economy wasnt in the toilet and I can guarantee that they weren't upside down on their payments and were able to pay every month with good paying jobs that weren't having to worry about how they would pay their employees.

As you can see there isnt a reason to not cancel them from this point and before. I'm not saying forever cancel. Just from here and before..the economy is dying and to free up this much money would be to our countries benefit.

I have had my student loans discharged due to disability. If I were to go back to work, I would owe over $80K. At 53, no way could I pay that back. I have 4 degrees (MLS, BA, 2xAAS). I have been told I'm Ph.D. Caliber, but loans make employment impossible, yet I can only get SSI, which pays starvation wages. END the Graft involved in the Student Loan Racket! Permanently cancel ALL student loans, and don't force those who get them discharged to repay if their condition improves.
