10/4/2021 60 Minutes, ResistBot...Hey All-
Many of you probably aren't aware that when we first started StudentLoanJustice.Org many years ago, we were the featured interview in a Top Story on 60 Minutes. This story, and the senate/AG/other investigations that it spawned culminated in the largest scandal ever to hit higher education in this country. It also launched the political career of Elizabeth Warren. Last night, 60 Minutes revisited the topic of student loans in a piece about the vanishingly few successes in of the Public Service Loan Forgiveness Program (particularly as it relates to veterans). We predicted this from the outset of the program in 2007, and have been shouting about it from the rooftops over the past 6-7 years. It's good to see 60 Minutes revisiting the student loan issue, but the incredibly narrow scope of this story is very disappointing. The problem has become orders of magnitude worse than it was in 2006, and extends far, far beyond the Public Service Loan Forgiveness Program. A news organization like 60 Minutes should be taking a much larger view on the student loan problem today, which- by all rational metrics- is now in catastrophic failure on all levels. I hope you agree, and will do today's quick actions:
I strongly suggest that if you want this problem solved- if you want these loans actually gone, you will do these daily actions. We owe it to ourselves, to the country, and to the tens-or hundreds of millions of people who will follow in our footsteps. Regards, Alan ps. Will you please donate something at this time?

Happy Friday Everyone-
We need to hit Mitch McConnell hard. He is in with the student loan swamp, and has said some particularly terrible things lately. Will you please retweet this, and this? Also forward these tweets to Kentucky news organizations. We need to light this guy up, frankly...See the letter from his office contained in the tweets. Terrible. ResistBot! We're trying something new today...ResistBot! It's very simple: Go to the link, or just text " SIGN PSQVFQ " to 50409 (without the quotes). We have a million people. We could overload the inboxes of every Congressional office in Washington DC if everyone does this! PLEASE DO IT! I hope you all are getting VERY ENCOURAGED by all that is happening right now, all we are getting done, and all that we are poised to get done. We need you helping more than ever right now. We are the largest group of student loan borrowers in the country now, but that only matters when you do your part. Let's Make This Weekend COUNT! Alan ps. Join your state chapter group. They Need You! 9/29/2021 Breaking News: Navient is Out!Hey Everyone- A pretty big-shoe dropped yesterday: Navient (which was spawned out of Sallie Mae) is pulling out of the federal student loan servicing business. PHEAA/Fed Loans announced they were pulling out a couple of months ago, and this is now the third servicer (of 8) to quit the business. This is pretty strong evidence that the federal student loan system is crashing (as we have been saying for the past two+ years). This is not a victory. This is no time to be popping any champagne corks. Bankruptcy remains gone from the loans. Statutes of limitations remain gone from the loans. See the livestream I did last night about this. The disarray may get the Administration thinking about doing big things (like loan cancellation), but there is a lot of risk with that. For example, there has been a behind-the-scenes move within certain sectors of the student loan swamp to sell off the entire federal loan portfolio to Wall Street, and something dramatic like that becomes more likely now that the two largest servicers are out of the game. So now more than ever, getting bankruptcy rights back quickly becomes even more important. A sell-off to Wall Street with bankruptcy protections returned would be one thing, for example. Without it would be quite another, and a truly terrible thing for us all. . I hope this is not lost on you. I hope that you will start doing our daily actions, and even go back a few weeks and get caught up. We need you more than ever, and you need everyone to be helping in exactly the same way. We're getting closer! -Alan 9/27/2021 Monday Action...Hey All!
Today, we have three easy actions:
If you want to go above and beyond, by all means check out our daily updates/actions. Go back a week or more, and do those actions. They tend to be really quick and easy...and they help tremendously. This is your battle, our struggle, and a fight worth fighting... All together now! -Alan ps. Please give the petition a boost. This helps! 9/23/2021 Thursday Action: Ted Cruz...Hey Everyone!
First, I need to implore you all to make a donation today. We need to raise $200 by the end of the week. Please...make this fundraising a bit easier on us? Today's action:
Please commit to doing these easy daily actions...There is true strength in numbers, and we have a huge muscle to flex. Only you will make that happen. This is the battle...your battle! Finally: there are 4 days left to see the first episode of our documentary serious. Please watch it. The $5 fee will allow the film makers to finish the series! -Alan Collinge 9/21/2021 Tuesday Action: Rubio, DeSantis... Hey Everyone-
So Marco Rubio wrote a terrible OPED yesterday. Please have a look at it. Look at my comments below the article, and leave one of your own! This is where the battle is fought, folks. We need you. Also please retweet these to both Marco Rubio and Ron DeSantis (Governor of Florida). These guys should be on our side. I am actually hopeful that we'll be able to use this to get Rubio to cosponsor S. 2598, along with the two other republicans (John Cornyn and Josh Hawley) that we already have! Donations Needed! Folks, I HATE having to fund raise all the time, but it cannot be helped. Even to meet our bare obligations, I find myself having to constantly do fundraising appeals. We decided years ago to NOT take money from bad places, sell advertising, etc. This is CRITICALLY IMPORTANT TO KEEPING THIS GROUP ETHICALLY PURE. Currently, we need to raise $600 by the end of the month just to meet our barest expenses. Will you PLEASE pitch something in? http://www.studentloanjustice.org/donate.html We are in, by far, the best position we have EVER been in. I can see the light at the end of the tunnel. Please folks. Make this fundraising easier on us. This is the time. We are the tip of the spear. We probably would not even be talking about student loan cancellation by executive order, and would certainly not have bankruptcy legislation in Congress but for our petition, and our efforts. Think about that. GREAT THANKS to everyone who has been stepping up lately. We are the pioneers. Sincerely, Alan 9/20/2021 Monday Action: Celebrity BlitzHey All-
Today, please do these two things: 1. Boost the petition. $25 is optimal for maximum exposure. 2. Like and retweet these: Nicki Minaj Taylor Swift Kanye West Lady Gaga Joe Biden Josh Hawley Russell Brand Matthew McConaughey Oprah Winfrey PLEASE DO YOUR PART. STRENGTH IN NUMBERS! -Alan 9/17/2021 Score!Hey Everyone, I'm very glad to report that we picked up another republican cosponsor for our student loan bankruptcy bill, S. 2598. Senator Josh Hawley (R-MO) has cosponsored the legislation, so that currently, there are literally more republicans sponsoring the bill than democrats. Thanks to Gordon in Florida, and everyone else who contacted Hawley's office. This bodes extremely well. We need to build upon this. Please contact a republican senator today or Monday, get them to cosponsor the bill! I do still need to implore you all: Will you please pitch in a donation at this time? We have a $25 fundraising challenge out from an anonymous donor in California: http://www.studentloanjustice.org/donate.html Thanks to everyone who has stepped up lately...PLEASE...Make this fundraising easier on us! Oprah Winfrey Matthew McConaughey Kanye West Lady Gaga Nicki Minaj If you think of a few celebrities who should be helping us, then by all means call them out in the comments, or make a new tweet for them, and mention @studentloanjus1 in it so we'll see it! We are the largest group of student loan borrowers in the country. Let's flex this muscle! Strength in Numbers- -Alan ps. Give the petition a boost. It will help. We get about a third of our signatures this way! Good Morning:
I have to lead with a request for donations. Needing to raise $160 for a pending phone/internet expense. Will you please help? Knives Out: Yesterday it was reported that four congressmen sent the President a letter, asking him to NOT cancel loans by executive order! 3 of these people come from Georgia, North Carolina, and Ohio- some of the worst hit states in the country on student loan debt! If you live in any of these states- especially if you consider yourself to be a conservative- this should be extremely concerning to you. These men (all republican) are defending the worst big-government, college-enriching lending scam in US History, are screwing over millions of their constituents...and even their base...and we need to make them pay. To that end, will you please take a minute today to like and retweet this, this, this, and this? This is the battle, folks. Either you help us fight it, or we lose it. Special Panel Today Today at 1pm, we are doing a special panel for an expatriot group in Paris, France. It's on Facebook, and it's free! Please come on by and jump into the discussion. Should be very interesting. Thanks to Heather Taylor for organizing this! This is the time to fight. -Alan |
